BOSTON – Jaylen Brown’s journey after his championship and Finals MVP campaign has been nothing short of extraordinary. This summer, he traveled the globe, explored the music industry, and launched a new basketball shoe.
Amid all this excitement, the 27-year-old found time to get in the best shape of his life. As he stated before training camp began, “This is the best I’ve ever felt and the hardest I’ve ever worked.”
He didn’t need to say much; his presence spoke volumes.
You’ve probably seen the photos and clips—JB is in the best physical condition of his career, and mentally, he’s more driven than ever.
How does one find motivation after reaching the pinnacle? For Brown, it was being left off the All-NBA team, the All-Defensive team, and the Olympic roster. Those snubs only fueled his fire.
“I would be lying if I said it didn’t motivate me,” he admitted. “As a competitor, I’m always looking for reasons to stay motivated and keep that chip on my shoulder. When things don’t go your way, it makes you wake up even more and push to be better.”
Discipline is key for Brown as he balances his basketball ambitions with other interests. His days are meticulously planned to maximize every moment.
He credits Celtics performance therapist Drew Moore for coordinating his schedule, from his morning routine to workouts and leisure time. “Everything is scheduled, and that helps me maintain discipline,” he explained.
When it comes to workouts, Brown employs intense and unconventional methods. One of his favorite techniques is underwater training, where he combines endurance and weight training while holding his breath.
These workouts have contributed to his ability to play rigorous defense, matching up against elite players like Damian Lillard and Steph Curry.
“I added muscle last year, which kept me healthier and helped protect my ligaments and joints,” Brown noted. “Having that extra gear during the playoffs allowed me to play 70 games at full intensity, on both ends of the court, right through the Finals.”
After witnessing the benefits of his offseason efforts, Brown was eager to elevate his game further. He ramped up his training even more after Boston’s championship run.
“I’m obsessed with challenging myself,” he said. “I’ve fallen in love with it and am always seeking new ways to improve. I see so much potential for growth in myself, and you see it too. I’ve achieved a lot without being in my best form, so there’s still plenty of room for improvement.”
That’s a daunting prospect for a superstar coming off the most efficient season of his career. It’s not just talk—he consistently backs it up with performance.
As he enters Year 9, Brown is in the best shape of his life, and he believes he hasn’t even reached his physical peak yet.
